Kenema Shoot – Mende Collection

I was assisting JRFOTOGRAPHY on this shoot which was shot in a photography studio in Hackney. Tamu, co founder of Kenema and her team members were an interesting bunch to work with full of character and creativity. The makeup artist did a good job in bringing out that tribal look which was captured well by myself and JRFOTOGRAPHY. Flyprints was present filming the Mende Collection while the shoot was in process.

Lost In Mozart – Hug a Hoddie

Lost In Mozart’ was a hit during its run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival during August (all of it!). Now the show is coming to London’s Tabernacle Theatre Notting Hill for four performances at the start of October (6-8).

The story tells the tale of what it is like to be a young person growing up on the west london estate. A topical show that cuts through some of the myths surrounding youth culture today.

Details, videos from Edinburgh and tickets are available at www.lostinmozart.com

Shadez The Misfit

On the day of Halloween I was out on a shoot with Jrfotography taking pictures of an up and coming artist by the name of Shades the Misfit. Whilst taking photos and looking for locations, we came across an art exhibition which was featuring Goldie’s Athleticizm show at London’s Underdog Gallery.

As part of a special collaboration with Adidas celebrating London 2012, Goldie’s painted 12 of Britain’s Olympic hopefuls, bringing the worlds of street art and sport together in a unique and new way.

Curated by Eddie Lock, the show will feature paintings of athletes such as Olympic cycling gold medallist Victoria Pendleton, 2009 World Heptathlon Champion Jessica Ennis MBE and 2010 FINA diving World Champion Tom Daley.

Athleticizm will mark a departure from the traditional portrayal of national sporting stars, depicting ‘the rawness of their talent’ as Goldie says and ‘in a light in which they are rarely seen’. – http://www.metalheadz.co.uk

West Side School – Creative Workshops

Evaluation Westside School

The project began pretty slowly and as the young people understood the deliverables required for the session to run, they became more interested in contributing to the project. The session was split into two groups allowing the young people to work on a subject they were willing to participate in, as some of the young people weren’t interested in the first initial idea.

Giving the young people examples of comic strips created using photography, gave them an insight to what potentially can be produced. This also increased their interest in making it easy for them to come up with creative ideas.

Towards the final stages of the project, the interest slightly dropped but a couple of young people took the project into their own hands and completed it.

I am very pleased with the finished results of the two comic strips and believe that a third of the group who have shown commitment and responsibilities have a lot of potential to unleash within. With the right support and an extra push in the right direction, the young people can aspire to great things as the ideas they express are close to industry standard.

Will & Kates Wedding Day – Out and about around the Pall Mall

I was at home watching the crowds gathering by the Pall Mall live on the internet and thought to myself ‘let me go down there and get a couple of snaps’. I headed down to Piccadilly and made my way from the Tube Station. As I tried to go through the ICA route, I came across a number of security guards saying the Pall Mall is full and there’s not even enough room for one more person. As soon as he said that I kinda thought to myself that actually, knowing something like this taking place would of most probably had people queuing up from the day before so I decided to take some snaps with the crowds wondering around and enjoying the day.

Carnival - Nottinghill 2011

Notting hill Carnival is right on my doorstep and from the moment i wake up I can hear the sounds of the floats warming up and the flow of people in transition from their drop off point to the scenes where its happening. Carnival is one of the worlds biggest street events and attracts people from all four corners of the globe. This carnival was dubbed as a no go due to the past situations regarding looters and rioters but looking at how both days turned out proved that no matter what is going on on the streets of the UK, people will still turn up to carnival and let their hair down and simply free up themselves to have a vibrant, energetic and peaceful weekend. I personal never saw one fight during the weekend and I was all over Notting Hill in the most popular spots. I attend carnival every year from since I was a toddler and within the last four years, I have attended with over 2 grand worth of equipment and have never felt intimidated or at risk of loosing my stuff. Readers, please do not believe the hype and if you like carnival ‘Mek sure next time you reach’ and ‘Hold up your foot and jump, Jump!
